I agree, I had a blast playing it. The Taxidermist is now available to those who pre-ordered the game at GameStop and should be coming out to everyone else in the next couple of week :)

I'm very happy to hear about this. I was very impressed with Hotel Dusk and I was hoping they would make a sequel that addressed the issues the original had. Thanks for the article!

I'm confused by what you mean about there only being one Bonk game released outside of Japan. I own two for the turbografx-16, and there's also Bonk's Adventure for the NES and Super Bonk for SNES and the Game Boy games on top of that.

Sadly, I missed out on this one back in the day. It's one of those games that piques my interest to no end now, but found strangely off-putting when I was younger. I do fully intend to play it . . . eventually. Thanks for revisiting this one, Matthew!

There's also games like fl0w and Where that have a deep focus on the player-experience rather than objectives or goals. The real experimentation with videogames comes when devs distance themselves away from ideas of traditional mechanics and begin an exploration into the narratological and cinematic possibilities within the medium. It's trying to deliver a different kind of experience to the player, and there's just so much potential!!! It's mind boggling!

I think Flower is an important example here of the future of game mechanics. It seemed to be striving to present an "experience" instead of a game. It still has the basic concepts of levels, an end goal and an overcoming of that objective, but I think it's a sign of the possibility of a game that completely lacks any structure or goals.
